The Other side of the Life At Sea

Playing Basketball at Sea
Most of the Seafarer's have a love a hate relationship with the sea and as a wife who sailed with them, the feeling is mutual. Before my eyes, I can see how the sea causes many sorrows and hardships to come upon them, especially during winter time and rough seas, but they lived their entire life facing the toils of the sea, where the income is good enough to give a comfortable life of their love ones back home.

Live Life

In the University of Life, the most difficult course to take is "Living Life" at it's BEST.
The syllabuses are discretionary and there are no prerequisites.
However, it is definitive, that it can only be taken once.
Remedials are absolutely not allowed, and retakes are prohibited.
There is no Master's or doctorate degree, for those who wish to take it, a notch higher.
Most of all, the Dean is not like us.
We will only meet HIM when we graduated from this "school",
at a time when we are done and gone.
By then, only eternity can tell us if our rating is PASS or FAIL.
So, live life each day, as if it is your baccalaureate service,
Because in this university, we will never know the exact date of our closing ceremony.

Happy Father's Day

It's another time of the year when we take time to ponder and give  recognition for the "KING" of the house, but  career responsibilities sets him away from his family on this occasion. As a special way of showing how valuable he is to us and remembering the best times together, this  blog entry is dedicated to the man in command onboard Maersk Vallvik as of this writing.

Hilot Massage at Elizabeth Hideaway Hotel and Restaurant in Puerto Galera

For the past two weeks  the numbness on both thighs and legs kept me away from the usual activities in life. It was an ordeal to stand and walk alone unaided. Normal blood chemistry,  x-ray and ultra sound findings made doctor's prognosis more difficult. It was quite bothersome and worrisome, for fears of becoming disabled. Hubby's friend shared his experience of the healing massage (hilot)  with the man called ''Danny" at the Elizabeth Hideaway and Resort in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.

THE PARADOX OF TIME

Sharing the following beautiful message from my Ex NSC group:
The paradox of time in history is that
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We have learned how to make a living, but not a life,
We have added years to life but not life to years.

A Skillful Sailor

What makes him one? Is it the knowledge he learned while at the academe? Or the training certificate of competency that he needs to secure before being accepted for a job on board? Or from the shipboard experience, gained while at sea?

La Cuisine Francaise

The internet deals that keeps on popping out in my emails has given us a chance to try to explore different food cuisines in the metro without hurting our budget. Thanks to CashCash Pinoy for a lunch buffet deal of php299.00 only.

Further, it gave us the opportunity to bond with each other during hubby's very limited stay in Manila.

A Taste of Lucban, Quezon at Buddys

Finding other routes in a traffic jam around Metro manila, a colorful place at night when we passed by, did not escape my curiosity. I was fascinated by the festive lights of the place, significant of the "pahiyas" festival in Lucban, Quezon.

Sound trip at the Blue Wave

A Seafarers vacation in Manila away from shipboard duties is a perfect time to make up and make fun memories with the family. However, it needed time management especially if we have to mix business and pleasure.

Culinary Delight at Vikings

Food trip is one of the best bonding time our family had, every time hubby is on leave from shipboard duties. Passing by the Mall of Asia daily en route from  our son's place to our home made me wonder what's in those restos by the bay.

Let's go physical

For Seafarers who are on board the ship where the Chief Cook serves buffet meals that are not just palatable but mostly cholesterol rich food,  doing any form,of exercise  is one way to maintain good health. How To Maintain Peace and Harmony on board ships

The ship is their home away from Home, therefore a peaceful and harmonious relationship among the crew members is MUST at all times. To keep the spirit of good camaraderie and working relationship smooth, here are few ways to help maintain peace and order on board:
1) Be Humble and Respectful.
As a gesture of respect, always greet your Officers whenever you meet them anywhere on the ship at any time of the day.  For mix Officers and Crew, respect individual traditions and culture of your fellow crew member.
 2.) Calling by First Name
For a more cordial relationship among the crew, it is best to call each other by their first name. However, the Sr. Officers on board that is the Master, Chief Engineer, Chief Officer and Second Engineer  should be addressed by all the crew as Sir or Ma’am at all times as much as possible.

Top Eleven (11) Social Welfare Activities Onboard Ships

The working condition at sea is less conducive to maintaining a state of good health compared to those working ashore. It is because the shipboard opportunities for recreation and social interactions are very limited. The living quarter varies from ship to ship and from one company to the other. The quality of the leisure time is dependent entirely on the shipboard circumstances such as the vessel type and  the trade routes. The working hours, the feeling of monotony, long-time separation from the families, psycho-social problems affect the quality of the Seafarers’ social welfare on board ships.

Weekend Bonding Moments with the Crew Onboard

To strengthen the ties that bind among Seafarers on board ships where there is a "no alcohol" policy, having parlor games, outdoor games during week ends get together is one of the  ways to while away the time on board the ships.

Happy New Year 2012

As you travel through life...
There are always those times
When decisions just have to be made,
When the choices are hard, and solutions seem scarce,
And the rain seems to soak your parade.
